Does AI visibility replace SEO?

No — it's a new layer on top of SEO, not a replacement. SEO earns the click on the results page; AI visibility earns the mention inside the answer, where more and more buyers now stop without clicking. You need both, measured separately. PRAGMA measures whether AI names you and shapes the answer so it does.

The fear behind the question is understandable: businesses poured years into SEO, and now AI answers questions before anyone reaches the results. So is the SEO investment wasted? No — but the finish line moved, and pretending otherwise is how you lose the new game while winning the old one.

Think of it as two layers. SEO still governs the ranked links, and those links still earn clicks from everyone who scrolls. But above them now sits a generated answer that names a business and resolves the question on the spot. A big and growing share of buyers read that and stop. SEO gets you into the list; AI visibility gets you into the answer. They're related — clean, crawlable, well-structured pages help both — but they are not the same target.

Where they differ, and why you need both:

PRAGMA measures the layer SEO can't see.

Rank trackers can't tell you whether the AI answer names you — different question, different surface. PRAGMA measures that layer directly: it runs the real buyer questions and records whether the engines name your business. The neutrality is in the method — disclosed, reproducible — so it's a fact you can check, not a claim. Then we shape the answer so you're named, and re-measure to prove it.

The standard, disclosed

We ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews the exact questions your buyers ask, and record — per engine — whether your business is named.

We separate the pillars (answer-engine, parametric, local presence), freeze a baseline, and publish to a registry-verifiable record. We never claim a score predicts revenue.

Ranked, but unnamed — then named · Brand 9 Signs

Brand 9 Signs, a 40-year business (our own founder's, which is why we could open every number), had a real web presence and was still absent from AI answers — exactly the SEO-isn't-enough gap. We shaped the answers and re-measured: Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews now name it. Same test before and after, weak pillars shown too.
